Rev. Alphonso H. Meadows, Jr. was born in Kinston, NC. He spent his formative years growing up in the city of Albany.
He spent his young adult years working, raising his family, being an unofficial Big Brother to many in his community and running from his call from God. In 1992 God used a relocation offer from his employer to move to Phoenix AZ, where he ultimately quit running from God and answered his call into the ministry.
Rev. Meadows preached his trial sermon in 1994 at Fisher Chapel AME Zion Church. Over the next 12 years he was ordained deacon and an elder in the church, both by the late Bishop Clarence Carr. While in Phoenix, he served as associate minister and youth minister at Fisher Chapel. He established a prison ministry and was an Assistant to the Chaplain of the Maricopa County Penal System.
In the year 2004, Bishop Clarence Carr appointed him Pastor of Ebenezer AME Zion Church in Seattle, WA where he embraced the church family and community. He played the role of Pastor in the critically acclaimed play "Black Nativity" for two seasons, had a radio ministry, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Emergency Feeding Program.
In 2009, Bishop Dennis V. Proctor appointed Rev. Meadows as Presiding Elder of the Anchorage/Fairbanks District of the Alaska Annual Conference and in 2013 Bishop W. Darin Moore appointed him Pastor of Leake Temple AME Zion Church in Anchorage AK, where he continued to connect with both the church and the community. He became a board member of Bridge Builders Incorporated. This is a diverse community group of all races and faiths trying to make Anchorage a better place to live as the city of Anchorage is the most diverse city in the United States. He also served as treasurer of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.
On Father's Day 2016, God brought Rev Meadows “Home” as Bishop Proctor assigned him to pastor Walls Temple AME Zion Church where the church is growing numerically and spiritually and in October 2016 Bishop Proctor assigned him Presiding Elder of the Albany District.
Rev. Meadows has and continues to serve his beloved Zion well. He was the Administrative Dean for the Western Episcopal District Leadership Training Institute from 2005-2010. He also represented the church as a member of the Restructuring Commission from 2012-2016. He currently serves on the Appeals Board for the AME Zion Church. He has served as a General Conference delegate or alternate delegate since 2004.
Before answering God's call, Rev. Meadows served 22 years in the field of Information Technology, including 10 years as a computer operations manager for a Fortune 500 company, which included management of a 1.2 million dollar budget. He volunteered as a Christian Youth Organization basketball coach; Selected as Spokesperson for AZ United Way Campaign; City of Phoenix: Step-up Program “Mentor of the Year” – a program for at risk young African American male fathers, City of Phoenix: Big Brothers & Sisters, “Big Brother of the Year”, Inducted into Saint Joseph’s Academy, Sports Hall of Fame.
In the year 2011, Rev. Meadows and his wife Vivian were married and together they have six children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Rev. Meadows has a heart for God and a heart for God's people. He loves the city of Albany and his new assignment at Walls Temple AME Zion church and as the Presiding Elder of the Albany District.
